Battle of Geonosis: The War Begins

The first battle of the Clone Wars—where the Republic's Grand Army clashed with Separatist droid forces in the arena.

The Battle of Geonosis marked the beginning of the Clone Wars—a galactic conflict that would consume the Republic and pave the way for the Empire. What started as a rescue mission became the galaxy's first full-scale war in a thousand years.

When Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Padmé Amidala were captured by Separatists and sentenced to execution in the Geonosian arena, Mace Windu led 200 Jedi Knights to their rescue. But Count Dooku had laid a trap—thousands of battle droids surrounded the Jedi, cutting them down until only a handful survived.

Just as defeat seemed certain, Master Yoda arrived with the Republic's secret weapon: a clone army bred on Kamino. AT-TE walkers and LAAT gunships poured into the battlefield, turning the tide. The Jedi, who had been peacekeepers for generations, now found themselves generals leading an army into war.

The battle ended with a Republic victory, but at a terrible cost—the Jedi Order had become warriors, abandoning their role as guardians of peace. This was exactly what Palpatine had planned.
